How it is made & specified.
This vent plug looks like a standard masking plug but includes a small channel or porous path that lets trapped air or gas escape from a sealed cavity during oven bake or cure - without letting coating or plating fluid in. It is built for high-temperature bake cycles on silicone construction.
Use this vent plug where a part has a sealed internal cavity that heats up during cure - trapped air expansion can otherwise cause bulging, blow-out, or push through wet coating as a visible defect. If you've seen these issues with a solid plug, a vent plug is worth testing on that feature.
The venting mechanism is a controlled path sized to let air or gas through while still blocking liquid or powder coating material from entering the cavity - confirm cavity volume and cure temperature so the vent path is sized correctly for your part.
