How to specifyPaper, Washi & Fine Line Masking.

What is fine-line masking tape used for?

Fine-line tape is designed for automotive refinishing, striping and any job where a sharp, precise paint edge on a curved or contoured surface matters more than raw temperature resistance.

Rice paper, crepe paper or PVC — which backing should I use?

Rice paper (washi) offers the best conformability for tight curves. Crepe paper is a general-purpose, cost-effective option for straighter lines. Flexible PVC fine-line tape gives the sharpest edge control for detailed striping work.

How do I avoid paint bleed on curves?

Press the tape firmly along its full length after application, working out any air pockets, and choose a backing conformable enough to follow the curve without tenting or lifting at the edge.
